Next meeting

No meeting in April. Our next meeting of the year is on May 13th at 7pm in the east ballroom at Mountain View.

"Catalina Sky Survey"

The speaker for the May 13th general meeting is a professional astronome, Mr. Rik Hill. He will be speaking about his current project, which is the "Catalina Sky Survey". That survey is the search for asteroids and comets (NEO's - Near Earth Objects) that may come close enough to the Earth to pose an impact threat. Mr. Hill first joined the Kitt Peak staff in 1979 as the operator for Case Western Reserve University's Burrell Schmidt telescope.

The Next Star Party

There will a star party on April 18th and another is scheduled for May 16th. Both parties will feature observations of planets Venus and Saturn. Both parties are close to new moon so the sky will be very dark and ideal for observing the galaxies in constellations Ursa Major (the Big Dipper), Leo & Virgo

Location will still be the "Caddy Shack" on Ridgeview at Stoney Cliff Drive. Viewing will start about 7 PM. Bring your telescopes and binoculars. The public is welcome, so bring a friend or neighbor who might be interested.
